Court reaches a verdict: Bankrupt cryptocurrency exchange FTX to pay customers $12 billion

A court in the US has ruled that the bankrupt cryptocurrency exchange FTX must pay its debts to its customers. The total amount of debt in question could reach $12.7 billion.

This decision was made just before the trial of FTX founder Sam Bankman-Fried for a major fraud scandal.

FTX, which went bankrupt last year, left hundreds of thousands of customers facing billions of dollars in losses. The court ordered the exchange to make payments to customers who suffered losses during the bankruptcy process and to settle a portion of its debts.

USED CUSTOMER FUNDS FOR PERSONAL GAIN

The collapse of FTX created a major shock in the cryptocurrency market and left many investors facing significant losses. The company's founder, Bankman-Fried, is accused of misusing customer funds and is currently on trial in this case. The indictment states that Bankman-Fried transferred customer funds between his own companies and used these funds for his own interests.

The court emphasized that action must be taken to put an end to these fraudulent activities, which caused FTX's liquidity problems and a loss of investor confidence. This decision has also strengthened calls for cryptocurrency exchanges to be subject to stricter regulations.

However, given FTX's current financial situation, it remains unclear how much of these debts can actually be paid. The scale of the company's liquidity crisis and Bankman-Fried's legal proceedings will be significant factors in how and when these payments can be made.

The collapse of FTX is considered a major turning point in the cryptocurrency market, and this event has once again highlighted the need for better regulation and oversight of cryptocurrency exchanges.
