Critical second round of nuclear talks: US and Iran to sit at the table in Geneva

The second phase of nuclear negotiations, which will take place in the shadow of long-standing disputes between the US and Iran, is planned to be held in Geneva. While the negotiations aim to prevent a possible military conflict between the two countries, the recent steps taken by the Trump administration are drawing attention.

US President Donald Trump, while expressing that he is in favor of a diplomatic compromise, also ordered the deployment of another aircraft carrier strike group to the Gulf. Trump stated, "We will either make a deal or we will have to respond very harshly, as we did last time."

The US delegation at the talks will be led by senior advisor Jared Kushner and White House representative Steve Witkoff. The Iranian delegation will be headed by Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi. The mediation role will be undertaken by Omani Foreign Minister Badr Albusaidi.

Diplomatic traffic accelerated after the US began conveying its messages to the Iranian side through Omani diplomats. A secret document prepared by Omani officials was presented to Ali Larijani, Secretary of the Supreme National Security Council of Iran, during a visit to Muscat. Larijani confirmed on live television that he had received this document containing the US demands.

President Trump has made it a condition for any agreement resulting from the talks that Iran completely abandon its uranium enrichment activities. Trump's signaling of the possibility of "regime change" in the event that there is no tangible change in Iran's nuclear program, with the words "That seems like the best thing that could happen," has increased diplomatic tension.

On the other hand, White House Press Secretary Anna Kelly refused to comment on the matter. In light of all these developments, the meeting to be held in Geneva is seen as a decisive turning point for the future of tensions on the Washington–Tehran line.
