Critical summit in Syria: Jolani met with UN Syria Envoy

United Nations (UN) Special Envoy for Syria Geir Pedersen met with Hayat Tahrir al-Sham (HTS) leader Abu Mohammad al-Jolani in the Syrian capital, Damascus, on Sunday.
This meeting marked Pedersen's first visit to Damascus following the fall of the Bashar al-Assad regime. The main agenda of the meeting was the current developments in Syria and proposed solutions.
JOLANI'S CALL TO THE UN
During the meeting, Jolani emphasized that UN Security Council Resolution 2254 needs to be updated. Jolani highlighted the need for the resolution to be revised to reflect the current situation in Syria and underscored the necessity for rapid and effective cooperation to resolve the problems the country faces.
STEPS MUST BE TAKEN FOR RETURN
Jolani called for international support for Syria's territorial integrity, reconstruction, and economic development. He also pointed out that safe conditions must be created to ensure the voluntary return of refugees to Syria. Stating that this process must be managed carefully and by expert teams, Jolani said that hasty steps should not be taken.
