Death toll announced in US attack on Venezuela

The toll of the attacks carried out by the US military in Venezuela yesterday has emerged. According to a report by the US-based newspaper The New York Times, citing a high-ranking Venezuelan official, at least 40 people, including military personnel and civilians, lost their lives in the airstrikes conducted against civilian and military facilities in the country.

Two US officials, who provided information about the operation and requested anonymity, stated that approximately 6 soldiers were injured in the general operation aimed at capturing Maduro.

MADURO AND HIS WIFE HAD BEEN ABDUCTED

Venezuelan Foreign Minister Yvan Gil Pinto said in a statement yesterday that the US had attacked civilian and military facilities in Caracas. Condemning Washington's actions as a military attack, Pinto announced that a state of emergency had been declared in the country.

US President Donald Trump confirmed the attack on Venezuela and announced that Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro and his wife Cilia Flores had been captured and taken out of the country. US Attorney General Pam Bondi stated that an indictment had been filed against Maduro and his wife in New York, and reported that an indictment had been prepared against the Venezuelan president regarding drug and weapons charges.

Maduro and his wife were first taken to the New York headquarters of the US Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA), where identification, fingerprinting, and official detention procedures were carried out.

The pair were later brought to the Metropolitan Detention Center in Brooklyn. The US press claimed that it was planned for Maduro and his wife to appear before a judge at the US District Court for the Southern District of New York in Manhattan on Monday.
