Death toll from fuel tanker explosion in Liberia rises to 74
The death toll from a fuel tanker explosion that occurred in Liberia two weeks ago has increased. It has been reported that the number of people who lost their lives in the explosion has risen to 74.
According to reports in the national press, Dr. Francis Kateh, head of the National Public Health Institute of Liberia, stated that the number of people who lost their lives as a result of the tanker explosion in the country's Bong County on December 26 has risen to 74.
WHAT HAPPENED?
On December 26, 2023, in the town of Totota in Bong County, an explosion occurred after a fuel tanker in transit veered off the road and overturned. Liberian Minister of Health Wilhelmina Jallah had previously announced that 52 people had lost their lives in the explosion and that 89 of the injured were in critical condition.
The Liberian government had declared a 7-day national mourning period for those who died in the explosion.
