FINAL PHASE OF POLIO VACCINATION POSTPONED
The World Health Organization (WHO) announced that the final phase of the vaccination campaign in northern Gaza, which aimed to vaccinate 119,279 children, has been postponed. The first phase of the polio vaccination campaign, which was launched in August following the detection of a polio case in the Gaza Strip, was completed in September. The third and final phase of the campaign, which was scheduled to begin today, has been postponed.
119,279 CHILDREN WERE TARGETED FOR VACCINATION
In the statement made by the WHO, it was stated, "The escalation of violence, intense bombardment, mass displacement orders, and the cessation of humanitarian aid in large parts of northern Gaza have made it necessary to postpone the final phase of the vaccination campaign that was scheduled to begin today. The final phase of the vaccination campaign aimed to vaccinate 119,279 children in northern Gaza."
The statement conveyed that the current conditions, in which attacks on civilian structures continue, jeopardize the safety of people and movement in northern Gaza, making it impossible for families to bring their children for vaccination safely and for health workers to continue their work. As part of the second round of the polio campaign in the Gaza Strip, which began on October 14, 442,855 children under the age of 10 were vaccinated in the central and southern parts of the Gaza Strip. The World Health Organization's statement also noted that 357,802 children between the ages of 2 and 10 were provided with Vitamin A supplements.
