"ISRAEL IS VIOLATING THE PRISONER EXCHANGE"

The Commission of Detainees and Ex-Detainees Affairs, affiliated with the Palestine Liberation Organization (PLO), announced that Israeli authorities are violating the prisoner exchange agreement by trying Palestinian Fadwa Hamadeh, who was recently released from an Israeli prison, in connection with a previously opened case.

According to the statement made by the Commission of Detainees Affairs, an in absentia hearing was held today at the Haifa Magistrate's Court regarding the Palestinian Hamadeh, who was released in November as part of the prisoner exchange during the 7-day humanitarian pause between Hamas and Israel.

During the hearing, it was stated that she should be tried for alleged violations against prison police and administration during her years of detention, without regard for the fact that Hamadeh was released under an official exchange agreement.

The judge decided at today's hearing that Hamadeh should be summoned to the next hearing under the supervision of her lawyer for the verdict to be announced.

The statement said, "The occupying Israeli government is violating the terms of the recently concluded prisoner exchange agreement by putting the Palestinian Hamadeh on trial."

The Palestinian Commission of Detainees Affairs stated that what happened at the Haifa Magistrate's Court creates a legal dilemma for Hamadeh and those released in the exchange.

Noting that this means the files of those released under the exchange agreement are still circulating in Israeli courts, the Commission stated that this situation must be addressed.

Palestinian Fadwa Hamadeh (35), from the Sur Baher neighborhood of East Jerusalem, was detained in 2017 and sentenced to 10 years in prison and a fine of 30,000 shekels (approximately 8,000 dollars).

Hamadeh, who is married and a mother of five, was released in November as part of the prisoner exchange during the 7-day humanitarian pause between Hamas and Israel.

PRISONER EXCHANGE

The agreement for a 4-day "humanitarian pause" in the clashes between Israel and Hamas went into effect on Friday, November 24, at 07:00 (08:00 Turkish time) and was later extended for another 3 days.

Within the framework of the prisoner exchange agreement reached between Israel and Hamas, 81 Israeli prisoners from the Gaza Strip and 240 Palestinian prisoners from Israeli prisons were released.

The Israeli army resumed its attacks on the Gaza Strip immediately after the "humanitarian pause" ended on December 1.
