Death toll in Iran protests rises to 544

Demonstrations in Iran, which began on December 28, 2025, as a reaction to the cost of living and evolved into anti-government protests, continue. A statement regarding the loss of life resulting from violent incidents during the protests has been released by the US-based non-governmental organization Human Rights Activists in Iran (HRA).

In the latest statement from the HRA, it was noted that the number of people who lost their lives in the protests has risen to at least 544, stating, "Of these, 483 were protesters, 47 were security personnel, 8 were children, 5 were civilians not participating in the protests, and one was a prosecutor working on behalf of the government."

It was also emphasized that 579 death reports are currently under investigation.

The statement noted that the protests have spread to 585 different locations across 186 cities and 31 provinces nationwide, and reported that the number of those arrested has risen to 10,681.

IT HAD BEEN ANNOUNCED THAT AT LEAST 109 SECURITY PERSONNEL HAD DIED

In a previous statement from the HRA, it was claimed that at least 490 people, including 8 children, had lost their lives in the demonstrations, and 10,675 people had been detained. The Tasnim News Agency, affiliated with the Iranian Revolutionary Guard Corps, had announced that 30 security personnel lost their lives during protests in Isfahan province, and that the total number of security personnel who died in protests across the country was at least 109.
