Death toll rises in Hong Kong skyscraper fire

The death toll is rising following the fire that broke out on Wednesday in a 31-story skyscraper at the "Wang Fuk Court" complex in the Tai Po district, located in the north of Hong Kong. The Hong Kong Police announced that the death toll has risen to 146 with the bodies found during the ongoing search operations in the burning building.
Tsang Shuk-yin, head of the Hong Kong Police Missing Persons and Casualties Unit, stated that 100 people are still missing and the number of injured is 79.
Search officer Cheng Ka-chun said, "Although the buildings are structurally sound, the search operations are progressing slowly. It is very dark inside and it is very difficult to work due to the lack of light, especially in areas far from the windows." Cheng said that the teams have examined four of the seven blocks so far.

Temporary memorial created
Hong Kong residents have created a temporary memorial at the scene for the disaster, which has been recorded as one of the worst accidents in the city's history. Local and foreign visitors left flowers, prayed, and left handwritten notes at the site.
