Did the US conduct an airstrike in Syria? Newspaper close to Assad makes claim
It has been alleged that the US conducted an airstrike on Iranian-backed groups in Syria.
It has been alleged that the US conducted an attack on military points belonging to Iranian-backed groups fighting alongside the Bashar al-Assad regime in Syria's Deir ez-Zor province. No official statement has been made by the US regarding the attack allegations yet.
The al-Watan newspaper, known for its proximity to the Bashar al-Assad regime, claimed in a post on the social media platform X that the US had conducted airstrikes in Deir ez-Zor province.
According to information obtained from local sources, multiple fighter jets targeted 10 military points, including an ammunition depot, in the Deir ez-Zor city center and the districts of Al-Bukamal and Al-Mayadin.
It was learned that fighter jets continue to fly over the region.
On the other hand, social media accounts close to the regime claimed that a high-ranking Iranian commander was killed in the aforementioned attack.
No official statement has been made by Iran yet.
On February 3, the US reported that it had struck at least 85 targets belonging to the Iranian Revolutionary Guard Corps Quds Force and affiliated militia groups in Syria and Iraq with airstrikes, in retaliation for the attack on an American base on the Syria-Jordan border on January 28.
The territory of Deir ez-Zor east of the Euphrates River is under the occupation of the US-backed terrorist organization PKK/YPG, while the city center and other rural areas are under the control of the Assad regime and Iranian-backed groups.
Bases where the US military is stationed in Syria's Deir ez-Zor province are frequently targeted by armed unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) of unknown origin and surface-to-surface weapons.
Iranian-backed groups west of the Euphrates are also occasionally targeted by aerial vehicles of unknown origin.
