Disaster in Spain: 2 high-speed trains derail! Death toll rises to 39

Spain has been the scene of a disastrous accident. Two high-speed trains in motion derailed. According to reports in the Spanish press, the accident occurred around 19:45 local time in the Adamuz region, near the city of Córdoba.

A high-speed train traveling from Malaga to Madrid derailed for reasons yet to be determined. Another high-speed train traveling on the other line toward Huelva overturned after being forced to make a sudden maneuver due to the accident.

While numerous ambulances and rescue teams were dispatched to the scene, it was announced that, according to initial findings, 21 people lost their lives and 100 people were injured, 25 of them seriously.

"THE CAUSE OF THE ACCIDENT IS NOT YET KNOWN"

Spanish Minister of Transport Oscar Puente said at a press conference held at the Atocha station in Madrid that the cause of the accident is not yet known. Emphasizing that such an event occurring on a straight rail line is "unusual," Puente pointed out that the line was renovated in May. A comprehensive investigation into the accident has been launched.

It was learned that there were approximately 400 passengers on the two trains.

DEATH TOLL RISES TO 39

It was reported that the death toll in the disaster has risen to 39. Furthermore, it was stated that more than 200 train services scheduled for today between Madrid and the south of the Andalusia region were canceled following the accident, in which 152 people were also injured. While the treatment of the injured taken to the hospital continues, it was reported that 12 people, 11 of whom are adults, are in intensive care.
