US House Speaker Mike Johnson stated regarding the decision, "Today is a shameful day in American history. Trump will rightfully appeal this absurd verdict and win."

THE VERDICT WILL NOT AFFECT THE ELECTION PROCESS

Trump could face a maximum of four years in prison, but others convicted of this crime typically receive shorter sentences, fines, or probation.

The verdict will not prevent Trump from campaigning or taking office if he wins.

Public opinion polls show that Trump and 81-year-old Biden are in a tight race, and surveys have indicated that the guilty verdict could cause Trump to lose some support among independent and Republican voters.

Former US President Trump was indicted by a grand jury on March 18, 2023, as part of an investigation conducted by the Manhattan District Attorney's Office regarding an illegal "hush money" payment made to adult film actress Stormy Daniels during the 2016 presidential election.

Trump appeared before a judge in New York on April 4, 2023, for falsifying records related to "hush money." Denying the 34 separate charges against him, Trump described the allegations as a "political witch hunt" and stated that he viewed the charges as "election interference."
