Donald Trump: Illegal immigrants are poisoning the blood of our country

Former US President Donald Trump continues to make anti-immigrant statements.

Trump spoke at a campaign rally held yesterday in the US state of New Hampshire. Lashing out at the record number of migrants attempting to cross the US border illegally, Trump promised to stop illegal immigration and restrict legal immigration if he returns to office.

"THEY ARE POURING INTO OUR COUNTRY FROM ALL OVER THE WORLD"

Stating that migrants are arriving in the US from South America as well as Asia and Africa, Trump said, "They are poisoning the blood of our country. They are pouring into our country from all over the world."

REACTIONS WERE SWIFT

Jason Stanley, a Yale University professor and philosopher who has written books on fascism, stated that Trump's repeated use of this language is dangerous. Comparing Trump's words to the rhetoric of Nazi leader Adolf Hitler, who claimed that "German blood was being poisoned by Jews," Stanley said, "This is a very worrying speech for the safety of immigrants in the US."

HE HAD USED THIS EXPRESSION BEFORE

Trump also used the phrase "They are poisoning the blood of our country" in an interview published in September, and Jonathan Greenblatt, CEO of the Anti-Defamation League (ADL), had reacted to the former US president by describing this language as "racist, xenophobic, and despicable."
