Egyptian media announces start of ceasefire meeting in Cairo

According to the Cairo Al-Ekhbariya channel, which is close to the Egyptian government, an unnamed senior Egyptian official provided information on the matter.

Stating that a four-party meeting has begun with the participation of Qatari, US, and Israeli officials, the Egyptian official noted that the meeting is discussing the release of Israeli hostages held in Gaza in exchange for the release of Palestinians in Israeli prisons, as well as a ceasefire in the region.

In its report on the subject, the Israeli state television channel KAN had announced that a delegation including David Barnea, head of the Israeli Foreign Intelligence Service Mossad, Ronen Bar, director of the Internal Security Agency Shin Bet (Shabak), and Nitzan Alon, the official in charge of the file for kidnapped and missing persons in the Israeli army, had gone to Cairo to participate in the negotiations.

The report stated that the Israeli delegation would hold a meeting in Cairo with US Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) Director William Bill Burns, Qatari Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani, and Egyptian Intelligence Chief Abbas Kamel.

Hamas also announced on February 8 that a delegation led by Khalil al-Hayya, the movement's deputy head in Gaza, had gone to Cairo to conclude ceasefire negotiations with Israel.

Palestinian sources had reported that Hamas accepted a plan for a 3-stage prisoner exchange and ceasefire in the Gaza Strip, with each stage lasting 45 days.
