Elderly woman arrested in Greece for allegedly starting forest fires

Reports in the Greek press stated that the woman, who was detained for allegedly starting two fires in the Oropos region near Athens on August 6 and 10, was issued an administrative fine of 5,413 euros.

Meanwhile, it was noted that the elderly woman was arrested by the court she was brought before.

On August 8, a 66-year-old faculty member was also arrested in Greece for allegedly starting 4 forest fires in the Vari region.

Greek Minister of Climate Crisis and Civil Protection Vassilis Kikilias had stated that those detained for their roles in the forest fires that occurred in the Vari, Magoula, and Domokos regions in recent days would "pay the price for their actions."

ENTRY BAN TO PARKS AND FORESTS IN ATHENS

A series of measures have been implemented in many parts of the country, especially in the capital Athens, due to the high risk of fire.

These measures include the full-equipped readiness of fire brigade, military, and police teams, the prohibition of entry into forests and parks in high-risk areas, and the increase of police and military inspections.
