Elon Musk partially bypasses access ban in Brazil

X, one of the most popular social media platforms in the world, had been inaccessible in Brazil, where it has more than 20 million active users, since the end of August due to ongoing disputes.

However, experts examining X's IP addresses stated that there are indications that the platform has begun redirecting users to its own servers through Cloudflare, a content delivery network.

Pedro Diogenes, Latin America Director of CLM, which focuses on cybersecurity, said in a statement, "The service that Elon Musk's social network has started using acts like a digital shield protecting the company's servers."

Diogenes explained that the shield in question acts as a "proxy server" between users and X's servers, filtering traffic and preventing the original IP address from being identified.

Following this development, some X users in Brazil have regained access to the social media platform.

Musk has not yet made any statement regarding X's partial bypass of the access ban in Brazil.

The National Telecommunications Agency (Anatel) announced in a statement on the matter that the situation is being investigated and that there has been no change regarding the ban imposed on X.

ACCESS BAN HAD BEEN IMPOSED ON X IN BRAZIL

In Brazil, the Supreme Court had requested that X provide data on certain individuals and block specific accounts as part of an investigation into an "attempted coup" involving former President Jair Bolsonaro. Following the rejection of this request, the court gave X 24 hours to appoint a legal representative in the country.

After the company failed to appoint a legal representative in Brazil within the allotted time, the Brazilian Supreme Court announced on August 31 that an access ban had been imposed on X "until a representative is appointed and the imposed fines are paid."

Elon Musk also reacted to the decision in a post on X, stating, "Free speech is the bedrock of democracy and an unelected pseudo-judge in Brazil is destroying it for political purposes."
