Entered a coma after a dog lick: Heart stopped 6 times, lost limbs

The health crisis experienced by Manjit Sangha, who lives in Birmingham, began when her dog licked a small wound. The bacteria that entered her body caused an infection in a short time.

FELL INTO A COMA WITHIN 24 HOURS

According to information provided by doctors, the infection progressed rapidly and turned into sepsis. Sangha felt unwell on the evening she returned from work in July 2025. The next day, she was found unconscious at home by her husband and was rushed to the hospital.

HEART STOPPED SIX TIMES

Sangha, who was taken into intensive care, had her heart stop six times. As the life-threatening risk increased, the patient was placed in a coma. It was determined that the sepsis had disrupted the blood clotting mechanism and blocked blood flow to the organs.

LIMBS WERE AMPUTATED

Despite medical interventions, the deterioration in blood circulation could not be reversed. To save Sangha's life, doctors had to amputate both of her legs below the knee and both of her hands. It was stated that pneumonia and gallstone complications developed during the process, and as a result, her spleen was also removed.

RETURNED HOME AFTER MONTHS OF TREATMENT

After an intensive treatment and rehabilitation process lasting approximately 32 weeks, Sangha was discharged and returned home. Her family has launched a support campaign to cover the costs of advanced prosthetics, physical therapy, and the renovation of her living space.
