Espionage operation in Israel: Accessed Iron Dome data

Following a joint investigation by the Israeli police and the internal security agency Shin Bet, espionage allegations against 26-year-old Raz Cohen have become a major topic on the national agenda. The focus of the investigation centered on serious suspicions that Cohen had been in contact with individuals working for Iranian intelligence for several months and had transferred classified military information to them.

According to information obtained during the investigation, Cohen gained access to data regarding the Iron Dome air defense system through the military unit where he served. Authorities determined that Cohen not only shared technical data related to the defense system but also transmitted the names of military sites and certain Israeli security officials to the other party. It is alleged that the suspect received approximately one thousand dollars in cryptocurrency in exchange for these disclosures.

Following his detention, a case was filed against Raz Cohen at the Jerusalem District Court. He has been charged with aiding the enemy during wartime, transferring information to endanger state security, and transmitting intelligence in favor of the enemy. However, information in the case file indicates that the actions in question took place before the current war began.

Under Israeli law, crimes such as aiding the enemy during wartime are severely punished, with potential sentences including life imprisonment or, in exceptional cases, the death penalty. Nevertheless, the death penalty is extremely rarely carried out in the country.

Following the incident, security institutions issued an important warning to citizens and residents of Israel. In a statement made by law enforcement officials, citizens were urged not to contact agents of foreign countries or unidentified individuals, especially via social media. Furthermore, it was once again reminded that hostile elements operating in the region are attempting to use Israelis through social media for espionage and activities that create security vulnerabilities.
