Earthquake aid from the EU: 26 million euro support
The European Union (EU) will provide 26 million euros to Turkey to support refugees and the local population in the region affected by the Kahramanmaraş-centered earthquakes.
According to a report by DW Türkçe, the EU noted that this new funding source will support meeting humanitarian needs that have emerged following the earthquakes and the regional refugee crisis.
EU Commissioner for Crisis Management Janez Lenarcic stated in the announcement of the aid that the EU continues to show solidarity with refugees in Turkey.
Lenarcic said, "Our primary humanitarian priorities will be access to education and providing protection to the most vulnerable communities."
4 million euros of the 26 million euro aid will be allocated for emergency education needs. This new funding source will be used for providing protection services to vulnerable groups such as asylum seekers and those affected by the earthquake, as well as in areas such as health and sanitation services.
The EU had previously provided 400 million euros in disaster aid to Turkey due to the February 6 earthquakes.
