EU: Hostilities must be paused immediately

As Israel's attacks on the Gaza Strip continue since October 7, the European Union has called for an immediate pause in hostilities in the Gaza Strip.

In a written statement issued by the EU, it was stated that there is deep concern over the deepening humanitarian crisis in the Gaza Strip, and it was noted: "The EU joins calls for immediate pauses in hostilities to ensure the safe delivery of humanitarian aid to the people of Gaza, for the increase of capacity at border crossings, and for the establishment of humanitarian corridors, including a dedicated maritime route."

"WE WELCOME THE RESULTS OF THE HUMANITARIAN AID CONFERENCE"

Reiterating that Israel has the right to defend itself in accordance with international law and international humanitarian law, the statement said: "The EU calls for the rapid, safe, and unhindered delivery of humanitarian aid to those in need by taking all necessary measures, including humanitarian corridors and pauses for humanitarian needs. In this context, we welcome the results of the humanitarian aid conference held in Paris on November 9."

"CIVILIANS MUST BE ALLOWED TO LEAVE THE AREA"

The statement, which also called on Hamas for the immediate and unconditional release of all hostages, said: "It is of great importance that the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) be granted access to the hostages. Civilians must be allowed to leave the conflict zone. These hostilities are severely affecting hospitals and causing terrible harm to civilians and medical personnel. The EU emphasizes that international humanitarian law stipulates the protection of hospitals, medical supplies, and civilians in hospitals. Furthermore, the most urgent medical supplies must be provided to hospitals immediately, and patients in need of urgent medical care must be evacuated safely. In this context, we call on Israel to exercise maximum restraint to ensure the protection of civilians."

The statement added that the EU will continue to work closely with international partners, the UN, and other organizations, as well as countries in the region, to ensure a continuous flow of aid to the people of Gaza and to facilitate access to food, water, medical care, fuel, and shelter.
