European countries top the list in divorce rates: Where does Turkey rank?

A new global study has revealed that divorce rates in some European countries have reached significantly high levels, while Turkey is positioned in the middle of the list.

European countries top the list in divorce rates: Where does Turkey rank?

In recent studies, many factors ranging from equal opportunity to social structure play a role in determining the longevity of marriages. According to current statistics examining divorce rates in various countries, the frequency of marriage dissolution varies significantly across different regions of the world. While European countries, in particular, stand out with a remarkable rise in divorce figures, it is observed that marriages last longer in some countries such as India.

The research revealed that Portugal is the country with the highest divorce rate at 94 percent. It is followed by Spain with 85 percent and Luxembourg with 79 percent. While countries from Europe generally occupy the top of the list, Central and Eastern European countries, as well as Scandinavian countries, also feature high rates. On the other hand, India stood out as the country with the lowest divorce rate at 1 percent.

According to the report, other notable countries in the ranking are as follows: the divorce rate is 73 percent in Russia, 70 percent in Ukraine, and around 55 percent in Cuba and Finland. France with 51 percent, Sweden with 50 percent, and the Netherlands with 48 percent are also on the list. The United States is at a mid-level with 45 percent, and China with 44 percent.

TURKEY IS BELOW THE EUROPEAN AVERAGE

Turkey is among the countries where couples have a higher rate of maintaining their marriages. In the analysis, the divorce rate in Turkey was recorded at 25 percent. This rate is considered to be in the lower-middle tier among European countries. It was determined that Turkey ranks behind countries such as Colombia, Poland, and Japan, while having a higher rate than Brazil, Mexico, and Iran.
