European Union imposes 'suspension' sanctions on Russia

As the war between Russia and Ukraine continues since 2022, the support from the US and the EU for Kyiv also persists.

In a statement issued by the European Union, it was announced that the distribution of the Russia-linked news outlets Voice of Europe and RIA Novosti, as well as the newspapers Izvestia and Rossiyskaya, has been suspended within the EU.

The statement noted that these four media outlets were "instrumental in promoting and supporting Russia's war of aggression against Ukraine."

"WE WILL RESPOND IN A PAINFUL MANNER"

The Russian Union of Journalists (RUJ) described the ban as "illegal" and stated that the matter should be decided by a court.

Russian Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Maria Zakharova had previously stated, following the EU's signal of sanctions earlier this week, that "we will respond with lightning speed and in a way that will be extremely painful for the Westerners."
