Execution warning from Iran
Iranian authorities have warned citizens against sharing footage of attacks on social media as the war intensifies, noting that under new legislation, severe penalties including the death penalty are on the agenda.
The escalating war environment in Iran has led the government to increase social control. In a recent statement by Ministry of Justice officials, it was announced that those who publish photos or videos of attacks with strategic importance on social media could be considered as "aiding the enemy" and could face the death penalty.
The warning stated that sharing sensitive information regarding security could be classified as espionage or aiding an enemy state, and that assets could be seized depending on the severity of the posts.
The statement further indicated that individuals accused of "cooperating with enemy states" or "intelligence gathering" would be punished in the harshest manner, with the death penalty included among these sanctions.
It is reported that the law, which came into effect last year, covers many media posts made on digital platforms in addition to classic espionage and operational activities. It is noted that this regulation specifically focuses on content alleged to support the United States and Israel.
Authorities stated that those who spread misleading information that could cause anxiety and panic in society during the war environment could also be punished with imprisonment. Furthermore, it was reported that investigations are being conducted into numerous suspects with approximately 200 files prepared, and that cooperation with security units is underway to identify the assets of these individuals.
It was noted that with the intensification of conflicts in the region, Iran has carried out intense air strikes against Israel and Gulf countries. Additionally, it was stated that the measures and threats taken by Iran regarding the Strait of Hormuz have created pressure on the global economy by causing disruptions in global energy supplies.
On the other hand, while the war raises tensions between the two countries, it is observed that security vulnerabilities are deepening within the country as well. Iranian officials assessed that allegations regarding Israel carrying out assassinations of high-level officials on Iranian soil have increased security concerns.
