Explosion during ammunition disposal in Iran: 14 soldiers killed

In Zanjan, in northwestern Iran, a unit affiliated with the Ansar al-Mahdi Corps was conducting operations to neutralize unexploded ordnance. However, a violent explosion occurred during the operation, resulting in the deaths of 14 soldiers. It was reported that two other soldiers were injured in the incident.

Authorities noted that the type of ammunition that detonated has not yet been determined, while emphasizing that these munitions were among those left in the region following airstrikes carried out by the US and Israel in the past. Pointing to the magnitude of the risk in the area, commanders stated that a total of more than 15 thousand pieces of unexploded ordnance have been safely collected to date.

Military officials in Zanjan province stated that despite maintaining high-level security measures during ammunition disposal, such unexploded ordnance always poses a serious danger, and that ensuring the safety of soldiers remains a top priority.
