Explosions in Munich in the morning: Police on high alert, body found on bus
Explosions and fires that occurred in the early morning hours in northern Munich have mobilized police and fire crews. Initial information regarding the cause of the incident has emerged.
In the German city of Munich, police have launched a large-scale operation due to explosions and fires that occurred in the morning hours. Special units and bomb disposal teams were dispatched to the scene. The Bild newspaper reported that successive explosions and gunshots were heard during the incident.
Police found a completely burned-out bus and a male body at the scene. Traces of fire extinguishing foam were noted in front of the vehicle. It is believed that the deceased person booby-trapped his family's home with explosives and set it on fire before committing suicide. Additionally, it was stated that at least one other person was found with gunshot wounds.
It was announced that the location where the incident took place was Lerchenauer Strasse in northern Munich. Police cordoned off the area, restricted entry and exit, and called on people in the vicinity to stay away from the area.
Police Chief Inspector Thomas Schelshorn stated, "There is currently no danger to the public. Furthermore, there is no connection to Oktoberfest." Dense clouds of smoke were observed from areas near the scene.
