FBI on high alert over potential attacks by Iran-backed cells
Security measures in the U.S. have been raised to the highest level following the 'Epic Fury' operation; officials are on high alert against possible retaliatory actions by Iran-linked cells.
Following the U.S. implementation of the military operation codenamed "Epic Fury," which targeted several high-ranking figures including Iran's Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, the issue of domestic security has returned to the forefront. The Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) has placed security units on high alert due to concerns that Iran-linked "sleeper" cells and lone-wolf militants could carry out attacks across the country.
American officials point out that issues with border security, in particular, have made it easier for such elements to infiltrate the country. Additional measures have been taken around public buildings, synagogues, and diplomatic missions, especially in major cities.
According to risk assessments by the FBI's counterterrorism units, radical groups and individual actors who may become active across the country following the operation are being closely monitored. Security layers have been increased, particularly in cities such as New York, Washington D.C., and Los Angeles.
Former FBI Assistant Director Chris Swecker summarized the scale of the current threat in an exclusive statement to Fox News:
"If a Hezbollah or Hamas cell is going to carry out an act of violence within the United States, that moment is exactly now. We know these organizations have had a presence within the U.S. since the 1980s. The loss of their leadership could push these cells toward 'revenge'-focused actions."
MONITORING REQUESTED
In a memo sent to local offices under the instruction of FBI Director Kash Patel, it was requested that the movements of Iran-backed networks be kept under very close observation in both the cyber and physical realms. Furthermore, a warning was issued that vulnerabilities experienced at border crossings in recent years could facilitate the entry of harmful entities into the country.
It is noted that while the U.S. military's strikes with Tomahawk missiles on Saturday morning have had a destabilizing effect on the Iranian regime, the FBI has established a comprehensive defense line to ensure there are no weaknesses in domestic security. During this process, in line with the Trump administration's "America First" doctrine, domestic border security is being maintained more strictly than ever while foreign operations continue.
