Ferry capsizes! 5 people injured
An 83-ton ferry has capsized in South Korea. Two of the 7 people on board have been rescued, while search operations are underway for the 5 missing individuals. Acting Finance Minister Choi Sang-mok, who is serving in the ministerial role in South Korea, noted that the search efforts are being conducted at night.
According to a report by Yonhap based on a statement from the South Korean Coast Guard, an 83-ton vehicle ferry capsized off the coast of the city of Seosan in the west of the country.
OPERATIONS CONTINUE
Two of the 7 people on the ferry have been rescued. Search and rescue operations are continuing to locate the 5 missing individuals. Authorities stated that teams at the scene are facing difficulties in search and rescue efforts due to high tides and that the incident is under investigation.
Finance Minister Choi Sang-mok, who is acting in both the roles of South Korean President Yoon Suk Yeol and Prime Minister Han Duck-soo due to ongoing impeachment processes, stated, "The Coast Guard and relevant agencies must mobilize all available resources and personnel, taking into account the strong currents in the region and the fact that the search is being conducted at night. They must also ensure the safety of the rescue workers."
