Bruce responded to a question from a US journalist regarding the investigations being conducted into the detention of Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Ekrem İmamoğlu with the following words:
"We respect the decision-making processes in the internal affairs of another country. We also expect them to act in accordance with democratic human rights."
