First statement from Russia regarding US attack on Iran
The Russian Foreign Ministry announced that they strongly condemn the US attacks on nuclear facilities in Iran and that this constitutes a violation of international law.
Russia has condemned the US attacks on nuclear facilities in Iran.
The Ministry issued a written statement regarding the US attacks on nuclear facilities in Iran.
Stating that the attacks on a sovereign state were an irresponsible decision, the statement noted the following:
"Russia strongly condemns the US decision to carry out attacks on certain nuclear facilities in Iran following Israel's attacks. Regardless of the arguments used, the decision to launch missile and bomb attacks on the territory of a sovereign state violates international law, the United Nations (UN) Charter, and the resolutions of the United Nations Security Council (UNSC). It is particularly concerning that a country that is a permanent member of the UNSC is doing this."
Emphasizing that the radiological consequences that this attack could create must be evaluated, the statement underscored that "this further increases the dangerous cycle of tension that undermines regional and global security and the risk of the conflict in the Middle East escalating."
The statement, which noted that the attacks on Iran harm the Treaty on the Non-Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons (NPT) based on the International Atomic Energy Agency's (IAEA) inspection and monitoring system, emphasized that the IAEA and the UNSC must react to this.
The statement included the following remarks: "It is necessary to jointly oppose the confrontational actions of the US and Israel. We call for an end to the aggression and for initiatives to be taken to create conditions for returning the situation to a political and diplomatic path."
