Fourth round of negotiations between Iran and the US to be held on Sunday

The date for the fourth round of indirect negotiations between Iran and the US has been set. An official from the Iranian negotiating team stated in a press release that Tehran has approved the proposal by Omani Foreign Minister Badr bin Hamad Al-Busaidi to hold the fourth round of talks on Sunday. The Iranian official confirmed that the negotiations will definitely take place in Oman.

The official further stated that the negotiations will focus exclusively on the nuclear field and the lifting of sanctions imposed on Iran.

NEGOTIATIONS HAD BEEN POSTPONED

The fourth round of indirect negotiations between Iran and the US was initially scheduled to take place on Saturday, May 3. However, it was announced that the talks in question had been postponed due to "logistical and technical reasons."

EXPECTATIONS OF THE PARTIES

Negotiations between the US and Iran are viewed as processes aimed first at building mutual trust and subsequently at establishing a framework for an agreement regarding Iran's nuclear program. The US wants Iran to stop the production of highly enriched uranium, which it believes is used in the construction of an atomic bomb. Iran, which maintains that its nuclear program has always been peaceful, states that it is prepared to "restrict" its nuclear program in exchange for the lifting of sanctions, while also demanding guarantees that the US will not backtrack.

It is noted that Iran will not agree to dismantle its uranium enrichment centrifuges, stop uranium enrichment entirely, or reduce its enriched uranium stockpile below the levels agreed upon in the 2015 deal.
