France and the US work on a temporary ceasefire
French Minister for Europe and Foreign Affairs Jean-Noel Barrot stated that they are working with their US partners to secure a 21-day temporary ceasefire in Lebanon, calling on the parties to accept the agreement that will be presented.
Barrot spoke at an emergency session on Lebanon held at the United Nations Security Council (UNSC) at France's request.
Pointing out that many leaders are in New York for the 79th UN General Assembly, Barrot stated that this should be turned into an opportunity to find a diplomatic solution in Lebanon.
Barrot emphasized, "War is not inevitable. A diplomatic solution is possible."
The French Foreign Minister announced that they are working with their US partners to secure a 21-day temporary ceasefire in Lebanon.
Stating that the details of the agreement to be presented will be shared very soon, Barrot said, "We call on both sides to accept this without delay."
Barrot announced that he will travel to Beirut at the end of this week to meet with actors in the region.
