French Foreign Minister criticizes Israel
French Foreign Minister Catherine Colonna has called for a "return to the principles of international law."
Speaking to CNN, Colonna made statements regarding Israel's attacks on Palestine and the future of Gaza.
Colonna stated, "It is not up to Israel to determine the future of Gaza, which is Palestinian territory. We must return to the principles of international law."
Describing the recent repeated statements by Israeli politicians and officials regarding the forced displacement of Palestinians in the Gaza Strip as "irresponsible," Colonna noted that such rhetoric "moves the parties further away from a solution."
Emphasizing her support for a two-state solution, Colonna said, "Gaza is Palestinian territory that wants to be part of a future Palestinian state. We support the two-state solution, which is the only viable option."
Pointing out that Israel must comply with international law and protect the civilian population, Colonna added, "(Civilians) are not responsible for the crimes committed and must be protected."
Israeli administration seeks to send Gazans to other countries
Israeli Member of Parliament Danny Danon, a member of the Likud Party, reported on December 15 in Newsweek magazine that he had published a 5-point so-called plan that includes "offering Gazans the opportunity for 'voluntary migration'." In the article, Danon also compared Palestinians to "Nazis."
According to a report by the Israeli newspaper HaYom, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu stated during a meeting with Likud Party members on December 26 regarding Palestinians in Gaza, "Our problem is countries that are willing to accept refugees. We are working to solve this."
Recent repeated statements by Israeli politicians and officials calling for the forced displacement of Palestinians in the Gaza Strip have been met with backlash and rejection from regional and international public opinion.
Israeli far-right National Security Minister Itamar Ben-Gvir stated in a post on the social media platform X on January 1 regarding the resettlement of displaced Palestinians, "We have partners around the world who will help us."
Speaking at the weekly meeting of his Religious Zionism Party in the Israeli Parliament (Knesset), Israel's far-right Finance Minister Bezalel Smotrich proposed "encouraging the voluntary migration of Gaza's residents to countries that agree to accept refugees."
