G7 leaders meet via video conference: Joint statement on Iran

G7 leaders met via video conference today following Iran's attack on Israel. In the statement issued after the conference, the following expressions were used: "We, the leaders of the G7, condemn in the strongest terms Iran's direct and unprecedented attack against Israel. Iran fired hundreds of unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) and missiles at Israel. Israel, with the help of its partners, repelled this attack."

FULL SUPPORT FOR ISRAEL

In the statement, which expressed full solidarity and support for Israel and its people, it was stated: "We reaffirm our commitment to Israel's security."

The statement noted the following:

"With its actions, Iran has taken another step toward the destabilization of the region and risks provoking an uncontrollable regional escalation. This must be avoided. We will continue to work to stabilize the situation and avoid further escalation. In this spirit, we demand that Iran and its proxies cease their attacks, and we stand ready to take further measures now and in response to further destabilizing initiatives."

GAZA ALSO DISCUSSED

The G7 statement also touched upon the situation in Gaza, stating: "We will strengthen our cooperation to end the crisis in Gaza, including by continuing to work towards an immediate and sustainable ceasefire and the release of hostages by Hamas, and by delivering increased humanitarian assistance to Palestinians in need."

Reports in the Italian press indicated that the leaders' video conference lasted less than an hour.
