Donald Trump nominates Pam Bondi for Attorney General following Gaetz's withdrawal

Announcing on the social media platform Truth Social that he has nominated former Florida Attorney General Bondi for the Department of Justice, Trump stated, "Pam has been a prosecutor for nearly 20 years, has been very tough on violent criminals, and has made our streets safe for families in Florida."

Trump noted that the department had been used against him and other Republicans, adding the following:

"That will no longer be the case. Pam will refocus the Department of Justice to its true purpose of fighting crime and making America safe again."

Gaetz, who had been the subject of debate in American public opinion due to an investigation conducted by the House Ethics Committee, had made a statement on his X account yesterday.

Arguing that the controversies had "become an unfairly distracting element" for the Trump administration, Gaetz had stated that he was withdrawing his nomination for the cabinet.

SEXUAL MISCONDUCT ALLEGATIONS AGAINST GAETZ

Trump's first nominee for the Attorney General position, former Congressman Gaetz, had faced accusations including "paying two women for sex," "having sexual relations with an underage girl," and "using drugs."

An investigation was conducted by the House Ethics Committee regarding the allegations against Gaetz, and a report was prepared as a result of this inquiry.

Despite public pressure, it was noted that Trump opposed the release of the report in question, and the rejection of the report's disclosure due to opposition from Republicans in Congress had sparked reactions.
