Gallant calls Netanyahu's statement 'nonsense'
In a statement at the Israeli parliament's Foreign Affairs and Defense Committee meeting, Israeli Defense Minister Yoav Gallant targeted Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's remarks on "absolute victory" in the Gaza Strip, saying, "I hear all the heroes beating the drums of war and nonsense like 'absolute victory'."
Israeli Defense Minister Yoav Gallant made statements at the Israeli parliament's Foreign Affairs and Defense Committee, where the ongoing tension between Israel and Hezbollah was discussed.
Responding to a question about why Israel has not launched a war against Hezbollah in Lebanon, Gallant stated that a war with Lebanon would take place under different conditions than those of October 7.
Targeting Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's "absolute victory" remarks regarding the Gaza Strip, Gallant said, "I hear all the heroes beating the drums of war and nonsense like 'absolute victory'."
RESPONSE TO GALLANT'S REMARKS
Following Gallant's statements, the Israeli Prime Minister's Office issued a statement saying, "When Gallant adopts an anti-Israel narrative, he harms the chances of reaching a hostage deal. He should have attacked Hamas leader Yahya Sinwar, who refuses to send a delegation to the negotiations and is the only obstacle to a hostage deal."
Reiterating Netanyahu's stance that Israel must achieve "absolute victory," the statement added, "This is the clear directive of Prime Minister Netanyahu and the cabinet, and it is binding on everyone, including Gallant."
