Israel attacks Iran: First statement from Netanyahu

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said that the attack they launched against Iran aims to "eliminate threats to Israel's survival."

In a statement released by the Israeli Prime Minister's Office, Netanyahu said, "The name of the operation we have launched against Iran is 'Rising Lion.' Our operations will continue until the Iranian threat is completely eliminated."

Netanyahu claimed that Iran makes "calls for genocide" against Israel and supports these threats with its nuclear program. Alleging that Iran has enriched uranium to a level sufficient to produce an atomic bomb, Netanyahu stated, "At this rate, Iran could reach the capacity to produce nuclear weapons, which is an unacceptable danger for Israel."

Stating that the Israeli army carried out an attack on the Natanz facility, the center of Iran's nuclear enrichment activities, Netanyahu said, "We have struck at the heart of Iran's nuclear enrichment program."

Netanyahu also said that they carried out attacks on Iran's ballistic missile program, noting that Iran fired 300 missiles at Israel last year, and in response, Israel retaliated with 25 missiles carrying one ton of explosives each.

Arguing that Iran aims to produce 10 thousand ballistic missiles within the next 3 years, Netanyahu stated, "This is unacceptable. Our problem is not with the Iranian people, but with the Iranian regime. We have dealt them a very heavy blow."
