She walked on campus in her underwear: Decision made regarding the female student who stripped in protest in Iran
In Iran, a student who was harassed staged a protest by removing her clothes and walking in her underwear. While the protest in question drew widespread attention in the world press, the action taken against the student has been revealed.
The protest by a female student in Iran received extensive coverage in the global press. In footage that spread rapidly on social media, the female student walked on campus in her underwear. According to eyewitnesses, the woman was taken into custody by Iranian security forces who arrived at the scene shortly after.
According to Sözcü, the Iranian press claimed that the student was not actually protesting the government and was "shouting senselessly" in the street. The Iranian press reported that security forces took the woman into custody by "speaking to her politely."
According to the Iranian press, authorities spoke with the student's friends. They reported that her friends stated the woman was "exhibiting strange behaviors due to 'anxiety, stress, and depression'."
On the other hand, according to information shared by Iranian social media accounts, the woman was harassed and beaten by members of the Basij organization, which consists of pro-government volunteers.
The woman, whose clothes were torn as a result of being beaten, removed what she was wearing to protest the government. It is alleged that the student, who was left naked, chanted slogans against the dress codes imposed on Iranian women. Later, the woman was taken into a vehicle by the security forces who had beaten her after they arrived at the scene.
THEY PLACED HER IN A MENTAL HOSPITAL
The Iranian press, sharing protest footage that largely censored the woman, wrote that she was "experiencing psychosis" and had been "placed in a mental hospital under the supervision of experts."
