The protest by a female student in Iran received extensive coverage in the global press. In footage that spread rapidly on social media, the female student walked on campus in her underwear. According to eyewitnesses, the woman was taken into custody by Iranian security forces who arrived at the scene shortly after.

According to Sözcü, the Iranian press claimed that the student was not actually protesting the government and was "shouting senselessly" in the street. The Iranian press reported that security forces took the woman into custody by "speaking to her politely."

According to the Iranian press, authorities spoke with the student's friends. They reported that her friends stated the woman was "exhibiting strange behaviors due to 'anxiety, stress, and depression'."

It is alleged that the student, who was left naked, chanted slogans against the dress codes imposed on Iranian women. Later, the woman was taken into a vehicle by the security forces who had beaten her after they arrived at the scene.
