Sinan Selen, an Istanbul-born counter-terrorism expert, has become the head of Germany's Federal Office for the Protection of the Constitution following a leadership vacuum that lasted nearly ten months.
The new head of Germany's Federal Office for the Protection of the Constitution (Verfassungsschutz), which has been without a president for nearly ten months, has been determined. Sinan Selen, an Istanbul-born counter-terrorism expert, has been appointed to lead the agency.
According to reports in the German media, the Christian Democratic Union/Christian Social Union (CDU/CSU) and the Social Democratic Party (SPD) have reached an agreement on the new president. Selen, who is the current vice president of the agency, will officially begin his duties.
Federal Interior Minister Alexander Dobrindt is expected to send an information letter to employees on Monday. It was reported that the appointment will be approved at the cabinet meeting on Wednesday.
It was noted that Selen plans to place greater emphasis on activities directed at Russia in the domestic intelligence agency's operations.
It was stated that Sinan Selen was a Turkish citizen until four years ago and that the relevant formalities would be completed during the week.
