Germany discusses halting arms sales to Israel

German Defense Minister Boris Pistorius stated that following US President Joe Biden's announcement that he would "stop sending weapons to Israel if it launches a large-scale offensive into Rafah," the German government is also consulting on this matter. 

Pistorius, who is currently in the US for a visit, responded to a question during a program on the German public broadcaster ZDF: "US President Joe Biden does not want to provide ammunition to Israel because he finds the occupation of Rafah to be wrong. Will there be similar steps from Germany?" He answered the question by saying, 

"This is currently being discussed. I cannot answer that yet." Using these words, Pistorius noted that the responsibility for this matter lies primarily with the German Chancellery and the Foreign Ministry. Pistorius, "We have, of course, exchanged views behind closed doors. However, it is not my role to announce decisions" he said.
