Germany's 377 billion euro rearmament move

According to a report by the US-based newspaper Politico, based on German government documents, Berlin plans to launch 320 new defense projects with a total budget of 377 billion euros. The program is designed to cover land, air, sea, space, and cyber forces.

It was reported that the prepared plan aims for Germany to become the "leading military power in Europe" during its rearmament process.

GIANT RESOURCES TO BE TRANSFERRED TO THE DEFENSE INDUSTRY

According to information provided by Politico, approximately half of the defense projects are expected to be transferred to the German defense industry.

In this context;

Rheinmetall will supply tanks, ammunition, and air defense systems,

Diehl Defence will provide IRIS-T missiles.

It was also stated that a comprehensive budget has been allocated for satellite systems, unmanned aerial vehicles, and maritime programs. Approximately 14 billion euros in resources will be directed toward low-orbit network projects for military communications.

F-35 AND TOMAHAWK MISSILES ALSO IN THE PLAN

The documents revealed that Germany also plans to procure US-made F-35 fighter jets and Tomahawk cruise missiles. The approval of the German Parliament's budget committee will be required for the large-scale tenders to be implemented.

It was noted that the Berlin administration has moved toward new budget arrangements beyond the 100 billion euro special defense fund created after the start of the war in Ukraine.

"STRONGEST ARMY IN EUROPE" GOAL

German Chancellor Friedrich Merz promised in a speech last May to make the Bundeswehr the strongest conventional army in Europe.

The report stated that the German government aims to make the army combat-ready by 2029, citing security threats allegedly originating from Russia.

SHARP REACTION FROM MOSCOW

Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov described Germany's plan as "nonsense invented by the West to increase defense spending." Lavrov accused Germany of trying to become the "main military power in Europe" once again.

Lavrov also claimed that the European Union is being dragged into a structure similar to the "Fourth Reich."

ARMS DEALS ON THE AGENDA BEFORE ANKARA VISIT

Germany is the second-largest arms supplier to Ukraine after the US. Berlin had sent Leopard tanks to Ukraine.

German Chancellor Friedrich Merz will visit Ankara on October 30 to meet with President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan. The meeting is expected to address cooperation issues with Turkey in the fields of defense industry and air forces.

The Berlin administration had also approved the sale of 40 Eurofighter Typhoon fighter jets following the Eurofighter agreement Turkey signed with the UK. It was reported that 20 of these aircraft would be supplied by the UK and 20 by Germany.
