Gold smuggling by bus at the Bulgarian border! Thousands of Euros worth of gold seized on a Turkish-plated bus
Approximately 150 thousand euros worth of gold jewelry was seized by Bulgarian customs on a Turkish-plated passenger bus traveling to Kosovo.
Customs inspections carried out at Bulgaria's Kapitan Andreevo Border Crossing resulted in the seizure of a large quantity of smuggled gold jewelry on a Turkish-plated passenger bus that had departed from Edirne and was traveling to Kosovo. It was reported that the gold, which weighed a total of 911.8 grams and was determined to be 21-karat, reached a value of 152,270 euros.
According to the statement, undeclared gold jewelry was found on two of the ten passengers traveling on the bus, which was subjected to risk analysis at the border. 622.80 grams of gold jewelry were discovered in the inner pocket of one passenger, while various pieces of jewelry, including necklaces, rings, medallions, earrings, and bracelets weighing 289 grams, were found in the lining of another passenger's jacket.
Following an expert appraisal of the gold, its total monetary value was confirmed to be 152,270 euros. A preliminary investigation has been launched by customs authorities under the supervision of the Haskovo Regional Prosecutor's Office in Bulgaria regarding the incident.
The incident once again demonstrates that inspections at border crossings have increased recently, and authorities have sent a message of determination in the fight against smuggling.
