The sky turns red in Greece: Warning issued for Turkey as well
As Storm "Erminio" and desert dust from Africa continue to affect Greece, the sky over Crete has turned a deep red. Schools have switched to remote learning in the country, where transportation has been disrupted. In Turkey, the Meteorological Service has issued warnings for muddy rain and strong winds for many regions.
Adverse weather conditions continuing across Greece have caused striking scenes, particularly on the island of Crete. Desert dust carried from Africa has caused the sky over the island to turn shades of red.
Strong southerly winds carried the desert dust to the southern parts of the country. The dust clouds, which intensified over Crete, were felt throughout the day.
The Hellenic National Meteorological Service announced that the dust concentration in the atmosphere is expected to gradually decrease starting from the night hours.

DISRUPTIONS IN TRANSPORTATION
Heavy dust transport and strong winds have negatively affected transportation. Flights were canceled at Heraklion Airport in Crete due to reduced visibility and difficult landing conditions.
Due to winds reaching 90-100 kilometers per hour, maritime services connected to the island were also halted. While the ports of Lavrio and Rafina were temporarily closed, services on the Volos-Sporades, Kavala-Prinu, and Rio-Antirio lines were also suspended.

STORM AFFECTS THE ENTIRE COUNTRY
While the storm named "Erminio" is expected to begin today and continue tomorrow, education has been suspended in many regions as a precaution.
The Greek Ministry of Education announced that primary and secondary schools in some regions will switch to remote learning due to adverse weather conditions. In this context, education will continue online in the South Aegean, Karditsa, Saronikos (east of Athens), Marathon (northeast of Athens), as well as on the islands of Kastellorizo and Crete.
Throughout the day, heavy rain and storms were felt in different parts of the country. While flash floods occurred in some regions, numerous roads were closed to traffic.
WARNING ISSUED TO CITIZENS
The General Secretariat for Civil Protection warned citizens to be careful. In the statement, it was requested that precautions be taken against the risk of flooding, that people stay away from stream beds, and that outdoor activities be halted.
Furthermore, emergency messages sent to mobile phones urged people not to go out unless necessary.
MUDDY RAIN AND STORM WARNING FOR TURKEY
It was stated that dust transport originating from Africa will similarly be effective in Turkey. The General Directorate of Meteorology announced that rain in the form of mud is expected in the Mediterranean region in particular, as well as in the surroundings of the Western Black Sea (except Sinop), Sakarya, Ankara, Kırıkkale, Çankırı, Adıyaman, Gaziantep, and Kilis, and in the western parts of Şanlıurfa.

Against the rains, which are also expected to be effective in the coastal areas of İzmir and Aydın as well as the surroundings of Muğla starting from the night hours, citizens were urged to be careful against floods, inundations, lightning, strong winds, and disruptions in transportation.
The wind is expected to blow strongly from southerly directions in the north of Marmara, the Aegean, the Mediterranean, Central Anatolia, and the Central Black Sea, and occasionally as a storm in the Coastal Aegean.
On the other hand, it was also reported that there is a danger of avalanches in the high inner parts of the Eastern Black Sea and in the east of Eastern Anatolia, in areas with slopes and snow cover.
