Hamas issues 'ceasefire' statement for Gaza in Cairo: 'Within 24 to 48 hours...'

Negotiations continue for a ceasefire and an end to the attacks Israel has been carrying out in Gaza since October 7.

Israeli media announced that a Hamas delegation has arrived in the Egyptian capital, Cairo.

Reporting that an Israeli delegation is expected to be in Cairo later in the day, the Israeli press quoted a source known for their proximity to the Israeli side as saying that Israel would not send a delegation unless a full list of living hostages is provided.

It was reported that in addition to the Hamas delegation led by Khalil Al-Hiya, representatives from the US and Qatar have also arrived in Cairo.

An unnamed Hamas official reportedly said that a ceasefire could be achieved in Gaza within 24 to 48 hours if Israel accepts their demands.

WILL A CEASEFIRE BE DECLARED?

The unnamed official said, "If Israel accepts Hamas's demands, such as the return of displaced Palestinians to northern Gaza and an increase in humanitarian aid, a ceasefire is possible within the next 24 to 48 hours."

A US official stated yesterday that Israel had accepted a 6-week ceasefire in the region, adding, "Now it is up to Hamas to accept it."

The unnamed official had also added that efforts would continue to make this accepted ceasefire permanent in the region.
