Hamas Political Bureau Member Rishq: Israel is not serious about reaching an agreement
Izzat al-Rishq, a member of the Hamas Political Bureau, stated that Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu is trying to "create excuses to avoid negotiations" and noted that he is not serious about achieving a ceasefire in the Gaza Strip.
Rishq's statement on the matter was published on Hamas's Telegram account.
In his statement, the Hamas official said, “Israel is not serious about reaching an agreement. It is using the negotiations as a cover to occupy the city of Rafah and the border crossing (Rafah Border Crossing).”
Accusing Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu of trying to “create excuses to avoid negotiations,” Rishq stated that Netanyahu is also blaming Hamas and the mediators.
Rishq reported that Hamas remains committed to the stance it presented to the mediators regarding the acceptance of proposals.
HAMAS HAD GIVEN APPROVAL
Hamas Political Bureau Chief Ismail Haniyeh had informed Qatar and Egypt that he had approved their proposals regarding a ceasefire agreement in the Gaza Strip.
Following Hamas's announcement that it had approved the "ceasefire proposals" conveyed by Qatar and Egypt, the Israeli War Cabinet had decided to continue attacks in Rafah.
The Israeli army announced on May 6 that it had requested the evacuation of some neighborhoods in the east of Rafah, where forcibly displaced Palestinians had taken refuge, and announced the day before yesterday that it had launched a ground offensive into the Rafah region and seized the Gaza side of the border crossing with Egypt.
In the attacks carried out by Israel on the Gaza Strip since October 7, at least 34,844 Palestinians, including 14,944 children and 9,849 women, have been killed, and 78,404 people have been injured.
While it is reported that there are still thousands of dead under the rubble, civilian infrastructure is also being destroyed by targeting hospitals and educational institutions where the public has taken refuge.
