Harsh message from Iran's new leader: 'We must target US bases'

Mojtaba Khamenei, who was elected as Iran's new leader by the Assembly of Experts following the death of his father, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, has released his first message. In a statement on his Telegram channel, Khamenei announced that the Strait of Hormuz would remain closed and that they would continue to target US bases in Gulf countries.

"WE WILL DEMAND COMPENSATION FROM THE ENEMY; IF THEY REFUSE, WE WILL SEIZE THEIR ASSETS"

In his first statement following his election, Mojtaba Khamenei said the following:

"Your servant, Mojtaba Khamenei, learned of the Assembly of Experts' voting result at the same time as you, through the Islamic Republic's television. It is difficult for me to lean back in the place where two great leaders, the great Khomeini and the martyr Khamenei, once sat.

For years, the enemy has established bases in some neighboring countries. These military bases were used in the recent attack, and naturally, as we have clearly warned, we targeted only those bases without attacking those countries. Regional countries must clarify their stance against the occupiers of our homeland and the murderers of our people. I believe they should close these bases as soon as possible, because they must now realize that America's claim of providing security and peace is nothing but a lie.

We will demand compensation from the enemy, and if they refuse, we will seize their assets to the extent we have determined; if that is not possible, we will destroy an equivalent amount of their property. I assure you all that we will never hesitate to take revenge for the blood of your martyrs. The revenge we are pursuing is not only related to the martyrdom of the great leader of the revolution; on the contrary, every member of the nation martyred by the enemy constitutes an independent subject for the cause of revenge.

The mechanism for closing the Strait of Hormuz will certainly continue. Work is underway to open other fronts where the enemy has little experience and will remain extremely vulnerable, and in the event that the state of war continues, it is planned to activate these fronts based on the principle of protecting our interests.

The insight, intelligence, fortitude, courage, and stance of the Iranian nation in the recent event have left their friends in admiration and their enemies in astonishment. You, the people, are the ones who govern the country and secure its authority. If this great blessing has been taken from us, the presence that the Iranian nation has re-established has been bestowed upon this system in its place.

I also sincerely thank the fighters of the Resistance Front. We view the countries of the Resistance Front as our best friends. The cause of resistance and the Resistance Front are an inseparable part of the Islamic Revolution."
