Harsh response to peace initiative in Iran: Calls for execution of Rouhani and Zarif

In an article published in Foreign Affairs magazine, former Foreign Minister Javad Zarif proposed that Iran reach an agreement that would end conflicts while protecting its own gains. While noting that he hesitated to share these views on social media, Zarif emphasized the necessity of ending the conflict in a way that serves Iran's interests.

Following his statements, banners targeting the two figures were seen hung in various locations across the country. The banners declared Rouhani and Zarif "traitors" and called for the judiciary to take action and execute them.

SUCCESSIVE STATEMENTS FROM REGIME SUPPORTERS

Saeed Haddadian, a figure known for his hardline stance on the issue and his proximity to Iran's Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei, labeled Zarif a "spy" and gave him a three-day deadline to retract his words. Haddadian threatened to take counter-measures if he failed to do so.

Hossein Shariatmadari, editor-in-chief of the Kayhan newspaper, known for its publications aligned with the official narrative, described the statements of Zarif and Rouhani as "submitting to Iran's enemies." Shariatmadari argued that the judiciary should intervene against these individuals.
