Has the US changed course in Syria? Tom Barrack says 'Not a federation, but a structure just below that'

US Special Envoy for Syria and Ambassador to Ankara Tom Barrack made a notable statement regarding the new structure in Syria.

While he had previously advocated for a centralized state, in his latest statement he used the expression, "Instead of a centralized state, a structure should be considered where everyone can preserve their culture."

Although Barrack had emphasized the necessity of a central government in Syria in recent weeks, he stated in his latest remarks that a policy change is necessary due to the impact of violent incidents targeting minority groups in the country.

NOT A FEDERATION, BUT A SEARCH FOR "ORDER"

Barrack proposed, "Not a federation, but a structure just below that, which allows everyone to preserve their own integrity, their own culture, their own language, and which is free from the threat of Islamism."
