He defrauded his girlfriend of 10 million TL in Paris with a promise to multiply money

A fraud case in Paris has caused astonishment. A 48-year-old woman lost a large sum of money to scammers after believing the promise of a man she met that he could multiply banknotes using a special method. It was learned that the woman suffered a loss of approximately 220 thousand euros, which is around 10 million TL, following the incident.

The fraud suspect gained her trust by introducing himself as a “money printing official for the Congolese state.” With a fake demonstration he presented to the woman, he claimed that banknotes could be multiplied by soaking them in a special liquid and boiling them between two pieces of paper. The man managed to impress the woman by boiling a 50-euro banknote and showing her three banknotes. Through this method, he ensured that the woman delivered a large amount of money to him in Brussels between March and June.

The woman, who initially believed the man's promises, faced the truth when she realized over time that the money was not increasing. Realizing that her money had not multiplied, the victim applied to the Paris Police Department's Anti-Fraud Branch. Police teams detained the suspect on June 30 as he was about to arrive at the woman's home.

It was revealed through an investigation that the suspect's true identity was not Congolese, that he was actually born in Yaoundé, Cameroon, and that he had a criminal record for fraud. While legal proceedings have been initiated against the individual, the peculiar fraud method has caused a major stir in France.
