He pointed a gun at an embassy employee! A decision has been made regarding that ambassador...
A decision has been made regarding Jon Benjamin, the UK's Ambassador to Mexico, who was dismissed after pointing an assault rifle at an embassy employee inside a vehicle during an official visit in Mexico in April.
The UK's Ambassador to Mexico, Jon Benjamin, pointed an assault rifle at a local embassy employee inside a vehicle during an official visit.
The Financial Times reported that Benjamin was removed from his post after the incident, which occurred during an official trip to the states of Durango and Sinaloa in April, caused widespread repercussions.
In a statement made by the UK Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office, it was stated, "We are aware of the incident and have taken the necessary actions."
"HE DARES TO JOKE"
In the footage shared on social media with the caption, "He dares to joke in a context where drug traffickers commit murders every day in Mexico," Benjamin is seen pointing the assault rifle in his hand at a local embassy employee whose face is obscured in the video.
Mexico has been struggling with violence caused by drug cartels for a long time. On average, 30 thousand people are killed in the country each year.
WHO IS JON BENJAMIN?
On the other hand, no official statement has been made regarding the 61-year-old Benjamin. While Benjamin's name does not appear as the Ambassador to Mexico on the government's official website, it is noted that his term of office was between 2021 and 2024.
Benjamin, who was appointed as the Ambassador to Mexico in 2021, has held various positions in Chile, Turkey, Ghana, Indonesia, and the US during his 35-year career.
