It has been reported that 23 people have died so far in landslides caused by heavy rainfall in Brazil's Espirito Santo state and the city of Rio de Janeiro.
Officials from Espirito Santo state provided information regarding the loss of life and property caused by the landslides resulting from the heavy rains.
In the statement made by the authorities, it was noted that the death toll from the landslides has risen to 23 and that approximately 5 thousand people in the state have been forced to leave their homes.
It had been announced yesterday that 12 people had lost their lives due to landslides in Espirito Santo state and the city of Rio de Janeiro.
An 'emergency' had been declared in Rio de Janeiro due to severe storms and tornadoes, and it was reported that some houses were destroyed in the city of Petropolis, forcing 500 people to leave their homes.
Brazil's meteorological service had also announced that heavy rainfall and storms are expected to continue for some time.
